About Us
Connecting plant enthusiasts.
The Hardy Plant Cub of Northern VT was first established in 1984 by a core group of botanists and plant lovers who wanted to learn more about native and ornamental plants that are hardy in Vermont. This friendly group now includes a wide array of horticulture specialists, botanists and avid hobbyists who do this by sharing their knowledge through workshops and other activities.
Our primary goal is to promote the sharing of knowledge through educational opportunities with local plant professionals for gardeners at all levels of experience. There is a surprising diversity of specialist gardeners in the area with interests ranging from woody plants such as conifers and rhododendrons, to primroses, alpines, herbs and other perennials. They represent a rich resource, and we hope to make their knowledge available to others.

Our History
A Legacy In Bloom
In the spring of 1984, we collected as many membership lists of specialty societies as we could find, assembled a roster of northern Vermont members, and sent out an invitation to them and to personal gardening friends for a meeting with a picnic lunch at my garden in Underhill on June 2. Approximately 35 invitations were mailed and about 25 people attended…
